What is Game On?
Game On is a virtual challenge celebrating our partnership with Team GB, the nation’s most loved sports team. It starts on 23 July 2021 when the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games kick off, through to the closing ceremony on 8 August.
You can take part during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games or any time before the end of August.
You can choose Olympic-themed challenges or not! The choice is up to you, so get creative and do something extraordinary with Team GB (if you need ideas check them out here.)
However you challenge yourself, you’ll be raising vital funds to help people who need it most across the UK. Because when we come together, we can achieve extraordinary things.
How do I get involved in Game On?
To take part in Game On, all you have to do is set a challenge, sign up, and a JustGiving fundraising page will be created for you. Friends, family and colleagues can sponsor you online through your fundraising page, so make sure you share the link to rack up donations (and hit your £100 target to grab yourself a thank you gift!).
You can complete your challenge before the closing ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games or any time before the end of August.
If you’re running, cycling or walking, you can connect to your Strava account to log your activity automatically, or add it manually.
Share your videos and photos on social media and nominate your friends and family to take up the challenge using #GameOnTeamGB.
Why Team GB and British Red Cross?
Team GB and the British Red Cross both believe in the power of ordinary people working together to achieve extraordinary things. Sport plays an important role in helping people feel connected to a community, addressing loneliness and improving mental health.
Team GB prides itself on its homegrown heroes – who, as part of a team, achieve the extraordinary.
The British Red Cross is powered by a movement of volunteers, putting kindness into action to make a difference to someone in crisis.
So as the nation’s most-loved sports team takes its most diverse group of athletes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, there’s never been a better time to bring people together with Team GB. Together we can raise vital funds to continue our work supporting better connected, more resilient and kinder communities.
How much does it cost to take part?
It’s free to take part! Simply register here and ask friends and family to sponsor your challenge on your JustGiving page. We ask that you aim to raise £100, but if this is too much for you, you can set any target that you think is achievable.
Who can take part?
To register for the challenge, you need to be over 18. If you would like to take part, but are under 18, you will need to ask a parent/legal guardian to complete the registration form. Please note that all challenges must be supervised by an adult at all times.
Do it on your own, or team up. And don’t forget to nominate your friends to join in on social media, using #GameOnTeamGB. Top tip: think of a challenge that you and your mates can have fun with and get sponsored…
Can I take part in a team?
Yes! You can create or join a team when you register. You can also create or join a team at any time by going to your individual fundraising page, clicking ‘Edit page’ and navigating to the Team tab.
How do I sign up?
It’s super easy to take part. Sign up and get started with your fundraising by sharing the link to your JustGiving page. You can download our fundraising resources here.
Is this safe during Covid-19?
Staying safe is the number one priority! Please make sure you follow all official Covid-19 guidelines local to your area, including restrictions on social distancing. If you are self-isolating due to Covid-19, please don’t leave your home to take part in Game On. Feel free to get creative and do a challenge at home instead!
How will my money be used?
All money raised through this campaign will help our work across the UK. That includes making sure people have the connections they need, so that our communities are more resilient and can stand strong to face the future. Our teams are also supporting people who have been hit hardest by Covid-19, with practical and emotional help, as well as assisting at hospitals and vaccination centres.
How much do I need to raise?
We ask that you aim to raise £100, but you can set your fundraising target to whatever you like. Don’t forget that if you raise £100 or £200 we’ll be sending you a thank you gift. You’ll receive the highest-value item for which you are eligible.
How do I start fundraising?
We want to make it as easy as possible for you to fundraise for the British Red Cross. It’s simple:
How do I pay my sponsorship?
When you register, a JustGiving fundraising page will be created for you. This is the easiest (and most pandemic-friendly) way to fundraise, as all donations from your online JustGiving page come to us automatically – you don’t need to do anything at all! Don’t want to ask for sponsorship? To make a one off donation click here. Or if you prefer to collect donations another way, click here to find out how to pay them in.
How do the thank you gifts work?
There’s no need to contact us to claim your gift. We’ll keep an eye on how much you’ve raised and after Game On is over, we’ll let you know if we’ll be sending you a gift. You’ll receive the highest-value item for which you are eligible. If you have any questions, need to change your postal address or would like to opt out of receiving your gift, please contact getfundraising@redcross.org.uk.
How can I connect my Strava account?
If you are logged in you should see a small bubble on the bottom left of your screen. Click it and select the option ‘Edit page’. Then select the option ‘Fitness’ to connect to your Strava account.
Can I log my activity manually?
Yes! If you can’t connect your tracking device or aren’t using one, you can keep track of your activity any way you like and add it manually to your profile.
How do I join the British Red Cross Strava Club?
Once you have logged into the Strava app, you can search "British Red Cross Club" in the clubs section, or follow this link.
